Who is eligible for the nationwide JR Pass?
Eligibility is limited. Confirm your status on the official JAPAN RAIL PASS eligibility page before purchasing; do not rely on nationality alone.
How does child pricing work?
The official child category generally covers ages 6–11 under the stated purchase/use rules. Current Ordinary child prices are ¥25,000, ¥40,000 and ¥50,000 for 7, 14 and 21 days online. Overseas-agency child prices also change from October 1, 2026.
Can I ride NOZOMI or MIZUHO?
Not with the JR Pass alone. A valid pass holder must buy an “ONLY WITH JAPAN RAIL PASS” NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket before each use. The extra price depends on the section.
What should I know about SmartEX and individual tickets?
SmartEX products, seat types and advance offers have their own terms. Compare the actual trains and dates you plan to book; a promotional individual fare is not the same product as unlimited eligible JR travel.
What are the limits of an IC card?
An IC card is excellent for routine tap-and-pay travel, but it does not turn every long-distance or reserved journey into a simple stored-value ride. Some routes and services require separate tickets or reservations.
